Next-Generation Custom Resins

CRG is developing and implementing a new epoxy resin system suitable for application in marine environments. CRG is actively seeking customers with a need for high-strength resin systems capable of optimizing carbon fiber composite potential with increased saltwater resistance and improved compatibility with current carbon fiber sizing.

CRG’s proven success with custom resins has resulted in formulations for engineered plastics, epoxy, cyanate ester, and other materials for air, space, and sea, and next-generation custom resins are being developed for customers’ unique applications. CRG offers this custom resin development service for customers unable to meet specific needs with off-the-shelf products. CRG quickly delivers complete material solutions, transforming a concept into a commercial product. In many cases, the process from chemistry to production is completed in one year or less.

Custom resin development begins with communication between the customer and CRG, which is crucial for fully understanding and assessing the specific properties needed for an application. CRG designs custom resins with two different approaches: reformulating existing resins with additives, or developing entirely new resin systems through molecular design and synthesis. CRG develops and characterizes resins using an extensive, in-house suite of characterization equipment. These in-house capabilities reduce the development time and cost to the customer.

CRG has the capability to modify and/or create new custom resins, focusing on improving the following properties:

    • Glass transition temperature (Tg)
    • Strength
    • Modulus
    • Elongation
    • Impact toughness
    • Fracture toughness
    • Electrical and thermal conductivity
    • Thermal expansion
    • Thermal stability
    • Oxidative stability
    • Chemical resistance
    • Flame resistance
    • Density
