Molecular Design and Synthesis

Molecular design is often a precursor to materials breakthroughs, and synthesis demonstrates understanding of a material system. CRG has the experience to design and synthesize new molecular systems functionality tailored to meet our customers' needs. For example, materials performance trade-offs (such as toughness versus temperature performance) could be eliminated or significantly reduced with new molecular design. Our success in this typically high-risk research area has resulted in filing several composition-of-matter patents for our customers.

Materials Design

CRG scientists and engineers cultivate an in-depth knowledge of both state-of-the-art and advanced materials technologies and their molecular design principles. We apply these principles in creative formulations to offer new types of materials and/or enhanced properties as needed for new applications. CRG can often quickly demonstrate feasibility and performance by modifying existing off-the-shelf materials. While a typical limitation to advanced concept development is a lack of performance from off-the-shelf materials, our level of material design expertise and aggressive investigation makes the difference in enabling advanced concepts.

Process Development

Process development of advanced materials requires significant effort. Ideally, materials processing would employ traditional equipment currently used in manufacturing. However, if this is not feasible, process engineers must either tailor the material to improve its processability or develop a new process. CRG technical staff are experienced in both of these areas.
